Calvin E. Young
Calvin E. Young concentrates his practice in the areas of professional malpractice, aviation, insurance bad faith and products liability.
Calvin majored in Finance at the University of Hawaiʻi, Manoa Campus and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1979. He attended the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaiʻi where he participated in the National Moot Court Competition in both 1980 and 1981. Calvin was also a member of the William S. Richardson School of Law Moot Court Board. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1982 and was admitted to the Hawaiʻi Bar that same year.
Upon graduation from law school in 1982, Calvin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Philip T. Chun, First Judicial Circuit, State of Hawaiʻi, and then for the Honorable Wendell K. Huddy, also of the First Judicial Circuit, until 1984. Following his clerkships, Calvin worked with Ayabe Chong Nishimoto Sia & Nakamura, becoming a senior partner in that firm.
Calvin served as the 2014 President of the Hawaii State Bar Association. In addition to the Hawaii State Bar Association, he is also involved with the American Bar Association, the Native Hawaiian Bar Association and the William S. Richardson School of Law Alumni Association.
He received the Hawaii State Bar Association 2012 ‘Ikena Award for outstanding service to the public toward legal education. Also in 2012, he was the William S. Richardson School of Law Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year. He served as a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii State Supreme Court from 1995 to 2001. He has served as a member of the Hawaii Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism since 2005.
