Cissy Farm appointed to NAGPRA Review Committee

Dec 4, 2015

(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – December 4, 2015) – Partner LindaLee (Cissy) Farm has been appointed to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Review Committee by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell.

The Natural Science Collections Alliance nominated Cissy to a second term. She was a committee member from 2011 to 2015 and chaired the committee from 2013 to 2015.

The National American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) provides a process for museums and Federal agencies to return certain Native American cultural items — human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, or objects of cultural patrimony — to lineal descendants, and culturally affiliated Indian tribes and Native Hawai’ian organizations. The committee monitors, reviews and helps implement some of NAGPRA’s requirements.
