Goodsill Coaches the Next Generation of Trademark Lawyers
Feb 8, 2013
Goodsill Anderson Quinn and Stifel applauds the 2013 University of Hawai’i at Manoa, William S. Richardson School of Law (UH) Trademark Moot Court Team headed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals this month to compete in the regional phase of the 22nd Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition. An annual event sponsored by the International Trademark Association (INTA), this national competition promotes the awareness of trademark issues by way of brief writing and oral advocacy.
This year’s trademark challenge involved an infringement action amongst the surfboard and snowboarding industries, pitting the fictional BLUE FIN-based trademarks against the SKUYLER FINN BLUE marks.***
Goodsill Intellectual Property Counsel, Martin S. Loui, was pleased to coach the oralists during several practice sessions along with the team’s advisors, Danielle M. Conway, Michael J. Marks Distinguished Professor of Business Law, andSayoko Blodgett-Ford, lecturer-in-law, local IP attorney, and Partner at GTC Law Group & Associates (Boston & California).
“This year’s team members are an impressive group – in a short time, they’ve been able to grasp complicated and technical trademark issues for the first time, and they sound like true trademark practitioners. It’s exciting to see a glimpse of the next generation of trademark and intellectual property lawyers ‘home grown’ in Hawai’i,” remarked Loui. Blodgett-Ford commented, “I am so impressed by the enthusiasm, talent and diligence of the team members. The students put in a tremendous effort for the Moot Court on top of their normal course load, which is amazing. This is a terrific learning experience for them and I wish them the best of luck!”
As an INTA member, Goodsill is committed to raising awareness with trademarks and intellectual property by supporting the grass roots efforts of legal training at the university level.
Goodsill’s Intellectual Property (IP) practice includes attorneys versed in trademark clearance, selection, prosecution, domestic and international portfolio development, licensing and trademark litigation.
