Goodsill’s Gerald Yoshida Inducted to Captive Review Hall of Fame April 2024

On Behalf of | May 2, 2024 | Firm News

Goodsill partner Gerald Yoshida is one of six captive insurance professionals to be inducted into the Captive Review Hall of Fame in 2024, an honor that recognizes the most influential and respected figures to have left their mark on the captive insurance industry. Induction distinguishes those who have made the most significant impact on the market, ensuring their contribution is not forgotten.

Yoshida is one of just 36 professionals in the world to receive the distinction since 2016. He was instrumental in licensing the first Hawaii captive insurance company in 1987. Since then, he has been crucial in the success of Hawaii as a premier captive insurance domicile. With Yoshida’s help the Aloha State was the third largest in the world in terms of gross written premium by the end of 2022.

Gerald recently gained major recognition for his achievements in “25 at 25: Captive Review’s 25 most influential captive figures since 1999.” As a specialist captive insurance lawyer with Char Hamilton Campbell & Yoshida and subsequently, Goodsill, he has been a steady part of Hawaii’s growth story in the last 30+ years, attracting some of the largest companies in the world to base their captive insurance companies in the Islands. Gerald has also introduced a number of Japanese firms to the benefits of captive insurance. He is described by peers as the “Godfather of Hawaii Captives” and is always willing to share his knowledge with future leaders.

His current practice covers a broad scope of insurance regulatory and captive insurance matters, where his depth of knowledge and experience allow him to advise clients on a variety of routine and complex insurance arrangements, as well as corporate governance matters. Gerald’s clients range from privately held entities to national and multinational Fortune 500 and Fortune Global 500 companies. He also serves as a speaker and instructor on captive insurance matters locally, nationally, and internationally.

Outside of the office, Gerald is a strong supporter of education. He is a member of the Pacific University Board of Trustees and established a scholarship for Hawaii students at Pacific in the name of his parents, both of whom were elementary school educators and principals.
