On April 29, 2024, a group from Goodsill participated in the Hawaii State Bar Foundation’s (HSBF) 50th Annual Law Day Golf Tournament at the Oahu Country Club
The yearly tourney celebrates service and fellowship, bringing the Hawaii community together to directly benefit HSBF’s pro bono services and community events, which have helped various nonprofit legal services throughout the state. This includes Volunteer Legal Services of Hawaii, Ku‘ikahi Meditation, Big Island Meditation, Meditation Center of the Pacific, Touch a Heart, and Hawaii Friends of Restorative Justice.
The tourney was open to all, with participation encouraged for law-related golfers. As Goodsill has many employees involved with HSBF and the law community, there were several Goodsill attorneys present or involved. In addition to Daniel Lam, who also served as the chair of the HSBF golf tournament committee, other Goodsill participants included Peter Kashiwa, Dale Zane, Calvin Young, Dave Hoftiezer, Dave Gruebner, Nick Kido, Trent Miyashiro, Maegan Ruggles, Steven Wall, and Dan Chen.
Contests included Closest to Pin, Longest Drive, Putt with the Pat Mau-Shimizu Gavel, and Play It Forward. Calvin Young won Hole #4 Closest to the Pin, with a distance of 6′ 6″. Although no Goodsill teams finished in the top 10 this year, it was a fun and fulfilling tournament for a great cause!
In addition to the HSBF golf tournament fundraiser, the Goodsill team supported the Hawaii State Bar Association’s (HSBA) Law Week with various other bar initiatives, including pop-up legal clinics, community service events, and more. Maegan Ruggles, who is on the HSBA Wellness Committee, participated in an activity dubbed “Well Being in Law Week”.
