On Saturday, July 26, 2025, a Goodsill team of five attorneys (Jennifer Chin, Erin Dung, Kenory Khuy, Allison Saunders, and Dale Zane) and four summer associates (Ua Alencastre-Galimba, Sigrid Howard, Mariko Jurcsak, and Jade Spallina) traveled to Wailuku, Maui, to staff a free Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) pop-up legal clinic at the J. Walter Cameron Center.
The clinic, co-sponsored by the Hawai‘i State Judiciary’s Access to Justice Initiatives Committee, connected local residents with pro bono legal assistance. Goodsill attorneys primarily advised clients on landlord-tenant issues, a particularly urgent area given the challenges Maui continues to face following the Lahaina fires and the recent lifting of the statewide eviction moratorium.
This effort was made possible through partnerships with VLSH, Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i, Maui Housing Hui, Speak Out & Up Law, Maui Mediation Services, Aloha United Way, and the Hawai‘i State Judiciary.
Goodsill’s commitment to pro bono service runs deep. We regularly staff one VLSH clinic a month on O‘ahu, and in 2023, VLSH recognized the firm with a Pro Bono Award for our contributions. Our connection is also personal: Goodsill Partners David Hoftiezer and Jennifer Chin both serve on the VLSH Board of Directors, with Jennifer currently serving as Vice President.
Alongside the meaningful work, the Goodsill team was warmly welcomed by the Maui community. The day began with a stop at Momona Bakery and Coffee Shop and wrapped with bentos catered from Kalei’s Lunchbox, reinforcing the importance of local businesses and the spirit of aloha that defines Maui.
At Goodsill, we are proud to serve the communities of Hawai‘i through our legal expertise and our commitment to justice.
